I would rather get $10 every time I snap my fingers, because I would feel overwhelmed with $10 million all at once. I would feel unsure about putting $10 million in a bank. I wouldn’t want to put all my eggs in one basket. At this point in my life, I don’t really need more than $20-$50 dollars in my pocket unless it’s an emergency. I think spending $10 at a time would be plenty to keep me going. Also, I wouldn’t be tempted to make big purchases, because I wouldn’t have $10 million just sitting around.
Monday 1/6 One highlight from break and one thing you’re excited about in 2020
One highlight from my break was spending time with my cousins in California. I watched their basketball games, and we went to the mall and the trampoline park. One thing I’m excited about in 2020 is hopefully getting my license and being able to drive by the end of the year.
Friday 12/13 Would you rather be too hot or too cold?
I would rather be too hot because I’ve experienced that feeling a lot in my life. I get really crabby when it’s cold, even when I’m wearing tons of layers of clothes. The clothes and shoes are really a hassle for me- I don’t want to take them off every time I step inside. Although the hot can be uncomfortable, it’s more bearable and forces me to drink more water, which is a plus.
Part 2
I believe that there are seven continents because that’s what we’re taught in school. Seven continents are shown on every world map.
I know humans need water because many people have died of dehydration. Without water, our organs will shut down and ones heart will give out.
Thursday 12/12 Write down at least 10 things that you know to be completely true
1. Every human being will die at some point
2. Iolani is a private school
3. The earth revolves around the sun
4. The USA is a country in North America.
5. There are seven continents
6. The US was inhabited by native Americans before Europeans settled.
7. Humans need water to survive.
8. There is no official language for the US.
Monday 12/9 If you could live anywhere in the world, where would you live and why?
I would want to live somewhere in California- maybe near San Diego or San Francisco. I like being close to home, and I definitely want to stay in the US so I don’t have to worry about getting new citizenship and learning a completely new culture. I would want to live near a big city because there’s a variety of things to do- some of which can’t be done in Hawaii, like watching professional sports games and going to amusement parks. I would like to live on the coast because that’s one of my favorite things about Hawaii- being near the ocean.
Tuesday 11/26 What are your family traditions for Thanksgiving? What are you thankful for?
On Thanksgiving, my family, including grandparents, aunties, uncles and cousins, eat lunch at my house. My dad cooks the turkey and everyone brings side dishes. Then for dinner, we go to my aunty’s (from the other side of the family) house. I try to go to sleep early because for the past couple years, my aunty has taken my cousins and I shopping early on Black Friday morning. I’m most thankful for my family. I’m very close with them, and very lucky that all my grandparents are still alive and well. I can always be myself around them and Thanksgiving is a time to just talk and laugh with each other. Whenever I’m struggling in school or with friends, I can always turn to my family for support.
Friday 10/22 Would you rather go to school for the rest of your life or go into one job and stay in it for the rest of your life?
I would rather stay in one job for the rest of my life. Contrary to school, I could make money and hopefully spend it to do things I love. I can’t think of a particular job I would want, but I think it would be better than constantly learning and being tested. If I was in school forever, I wouldn’t be motivated to work towards anything. The one drawback is that one job would become boring after a while.
Thursday 10/21 Top 5 teachers from the past 12-13 years
– Ms. Yip (3rd grade)
-Mrs. Hirata (6th grade): Mrs. Hirata taught me world history. The moment that stands out to me was when we were discussing filial piety. Coincidentally, pi day was also come up (3/14/15). We had a class party with mini apple pies, and she even brought us some chips and drinks. She always made class fun, no matter what we were learning.
– Ms. Kameoka (kindergarten)
– Mr. Lileikis (8th grade): Mr. Lileikis was my American history and homeroom teacher in 8th grade. He really loved American history, and one of the big ways he tried to get us to share his interest was through music. Almost every day we watched a youtube video that taught us the preamble to the constitution. By the end of the year, the whole class knew it by heart and we sang it super loud.
– Mr. Rubasch (10/11 grade)
Friday 11/15 would you rather that everyone around you hear your thoughts or be able to hear everyone else’s thoughts at all times?
I would definitely rather be able to hear everyone’s thoughts around me. I am a pretty private person, and I don’t often tell people my secrets because I don’;t like feeling vulnerable. The idea that the people around me would be able to hear my secret thoughts sounds like a nightmare to me. I feel like I couldn’t have a conversation with anyone after they’ve heard everything I’m thinking. I could accidentally offend them or spill a secret that they shouldn’t know. Even though it may be annoying to constantly hear people’s thoughts in my mind, I might be able to just tune them out.
